Here are a few quick Balinese (Bahasa Indonesia) phrases to get you by on your visit. Most Balinese will speak English, though I enjoy speaking a little Indonesian and it really helps if a hawker is being particularly persistent.
Good Morning = Selemat Pagi (sometimes, like us, they drop the 'Good/ selemat' and just say 'morning/Pagi'
Please = Silahkan
Thank you = Terimah Kasi
Yes = Ya
No = Tidak
Pardon = Maaf
Good = Bagus
No, Thank you = tidak, terimah kasih (this is my favourite phrase and possibly my most used)
Just looking = hanya melihat (use in combination with the above when browsing at the markets)
walking = berjalan (use in combination with tidak, terimah kasih, when offered transport)
Please go away = silahkan pergi (occasionally no thank you just doesn't work)
